I wouldn't bother with half-baked SW, when you can get older fully-featured professional packages for nothing or next to nothing. For example, you can register with Adobe and download CS2 for free and that will give you Illustrator and InDesign. You can get older versions of Corel Draw on ebay for very little. CD11 onwards will run on Windows 7 & 8, as will all the X versions.
To be pedantic, I think that you are only formally allowed to download and install CS2 if you have a license (and had to do with the fact that they switched off the activation server). Although I think there was (is?) a lot of confusion around this: For a low-cost alternative to InDesign, you could check out Serif Pageplus X7: And looks like they have a free version too:

Gimp is rgb, some printers can't use it, others will use something to convert it to a format that is compatible with their printers. It's always wise to ask what formats you printer will accept first.
note: recently took a look at scribus... IMO a real POS. InDesign eats it alive times 10. Still... when I do this sort of work, and I have done quite bunch, there is nothing like PS... but then again I always end up doing a lot image tweaking from photos and other stuff that people want to use. These days, no matter what you work in, people usually want a print ready PDF for production.
