I have been burning SVCDs for close to a week now, and although I've done maybe 8 SVCDs, I would like to move into the XSVCD market ;) Has anyone assembled a guide (much like the Doom9.net guide for DVD2SVCD) for using DVD2SVCD to make XSVCDs? If not, maybe someone might want to think about it...?

Hi, As far as I know (please correct me if I'm wrong), XSVCD will only define a SVCD that doesn't exactly conform to the official SVCD standard. This may be due to different resolution, or higher bitrate than officially allowed. For example, all the encodings I do with DVD2SVCD specify a 3200 kbs max bitrate, which is above SVCD specs. I guess I'm doing XSVCD then. So I don't think there would be any guide needed, since all you have to do is play around with either resolution or (more frequently) bitrate, until you reach the maximum limit of your standalone player (I noticed that mine would still accept streams up to 5 Mbits/s, but a movie then requires too many disks as far as I am concerned). My "XSVCD" parameters : Resolution : standard SVCD resolution Bitrates : min : 300, max 3200, min avg 1800 max avg : depends on the movie size (I like to fit 2 discs). If you have questions about XSVCDs, feel free to ask, I'm sure someone here will be glad to answer (including myself). Good luck Waldok

Well, maybe XSVCD is a bit more complicated than that. Anyway you will all find a pretty good description at: Have made a few myself with TMPGEnc and the results are off course as amazing as the amount of disks needed. ;-)

Well, It still does look like a relatively easy-to-handle variation of SVCD. I still can't see no difference to SVCD apart from resolution and bitrate (which is already a good thing !). Basically, just play around with bitrate and/or resolution until your standalone player can't play the files anymore... After all XSVCD means eXtended SVCD, doesn't it ? Waldok.
