Likely simple question, but I couldn't find answer with Search function. How do I get rid of extra space in a song/project? (even before and after the song) When I try the various delete and remove commands from the menus, it removes the audio from the selected area, but doesn't remove the actual area. Example is that I'd like to remove the first 34 seconds and final fifty minutes of a project, to whittle the song down to the part in the middle that I want to save. Or, alternatively, can I paste a selected area as a new song? As in take the part I want from a long session, and somehow make that a new project by itself? Thanks

Just grab the vertical right or left edge of the selected area and pull it to the left or right to adjust the track length. If Ripple editing is dieabled, it will effect only the track you have selected. If Ripple editing is enabled, it will move other tracks as well. You'll have to experiment with that to see what I mean unless someone else can explain. :) To remove a middle part of a track, put the cursor at the point of the track you want to edit and right click and split the track at cursor. Then that will give you a vertical edge to grab and slide in the middle of the track. All of this is non destructive so you can undo all of these without affecting the actual audio file..... and, the user's guide explains this stuff pretty well.

What Shemp said for individual tracks, for parts of the entire project do this. For stuff at the beginning or in the middle, drag a selection on the timeline, right click and select "Remove contents of Selection moving later items". For the end of a project you can do the same thing, or simply delete each section of every track after the point you want it to stop. The project/playback ends at the last segment of audio. Make sure that you don't have any small fragments out there or it will play on. If you want just one part of a project, again draw a selection in the timeline for the part you want, right click and choose "Crop Project to Selection" then save it as a new project (easier than copy paste IMHO). Hope this helps.

Thanks, guys, that totally worked!! I was pulling my hair out, though I knew it had to be something that easy. I was able to employ both of your techniques. Thanks again!
