Looking in to getting a cheapish mic for mainly vocals and a bit of electric guitar (back of amp) and was wondering wat peoples thoughts were on the Rode NT1A, AKG C3000b and SE Electronics 2200a, just to see what was the best or what you reccomend Cheers Harrison

I love the NTK. you can get em cheap on ebay. Stay away from the 3000b for vocals. Too harsh in the high mids. its been my experience. ( I have an older c3000 that is black)

I have a Studio Projects C3 that I've been really impressed with. I got it on eBay for about a buck and a half, but they are only $269 new otherwise.

I would look at the Apex SP 2 package. It offers four mics at very reasonable price. They include a tube (Apex 460), a large diaphragm condenser (Apex 410) and a matched stereo pair pencil condensers (2 Apex 185s) all in one package for under $300. I heard about them here on the DUC and the 460 is a virtual duplicate of the M 16 tube mic that costs $1200. I also took a chance on their 210 ribbon mic and the whole package was under $600. So far I am quite happy with their preformance and would encourage anyone to look into them,

I love the RODE as well as the APEX 460. That was what I used on my last project solely. Worked really well. Vocals, and used it for the sound hole on the guitar. Great mic. Doc

Where did you find the Apex SP2 package for less than $300? I can only find it on the net for $390, sounds like a good set of mics!

If you are interested, I got my Apex SP 2 and 210 ribbon package from a dealer here in Kent, Ohio. I don't know if I lucked out or what, but I am well satisfied with the products. I knew the individual thru working in the area as a band, soundman, studio tech, studio musician and engineer for over the past twenty-five to thirty years. I have an email into him now. I told him I was recommending the mics, I just want to make sure he wants the additional biz. Email me back and I will let you know what he says, till then, have a good one.
