Air con recharge

Hi, I have had my aircon recharged (2000 X V70, 2.4) twice in the last 2 wks using a national tyre company that also do air con recharges. Normally I would have not gone to them but they do a cheap deal as part of the MOT, I thought I would give it a try as the machine that does the rechange is fully automatic. It does a pressure test before recharge, so I was a little suprised that that the aircon needed another load of gas in less than 2 wks as the aircon failed! Any thoughts on this - is there a slow leak that cannot be detected by the recharge machine? Many thanks Richard

Richard, The method they use for leakage testing is OK for large leaks, you need to go to a reliable AC specialist , they have sniffing tools and sometimes they will install tracer dye, the most difficult place to find a leak on most cars is the evaporator. Mister T.

Wasn't easy took a few calls and a couple of letters, eventually got a cheque from them.

See here The dealer is going to have another look this week. I'll decide based on what they say they are going to do, otherwise, i've found a specialist that I'll be taking it to.
