Does anyone know how I would go about using my 002 Rack for monitoring (listening to iTunes, etc.) when I don't have PT launched? I currently have a separate audio card for this and every time I launch PT I unplug the cords coming from my audio card and plug in the cords coming from my 002R. Tedious, yes, but I'm starting to get worried about the wear and tear on my monitors. I've tried just disabling my audio card and selecting the 002R from the Device Manager, which sort of works but results in audio that's so choppy and weird that it's totally unlistenable. Any ideas here? Maybe a way to use the "ALT SRC TO MON" RCA ins on the back of the 002R?

Setup is done in Quicktime preferences. Choose your 002r as the audio.

That depends on the version of Quicktime/iTunes you are running. The recent version has a problem with the wave driver for the 002R and there is not work around for now. As for me, I use a monitor control device (Mackie Big Knob) but you can also use the Presonus Central Station of others to do the same to switch sources to your monitors.

OK so no one is going to believe that this works, because I barely believe it...but here's what I just did: Since I happened to have the right cord laying around (1/8" stereo to split RCA) I thought I'd run that cable out of my audio card into the ALT SRC TO MON inputs on the back of my 002R. I made sure my audio card was selected as default for my system audio, hit the ALT SRC TO MON button and lo and behold - I'm sitting here listening to system audio through my 002R. Anything in a web browser, iTunes, my DVD player, it all works and sounds great! I'll never have to switch cables again. All I have to do is hit the ALT SRC button again, and I'm back in PT land. But here's the thing - HOW DOES THIS WORK?? PT doesn't need to be launched, and I don't have 002R selected as my audio device ANYWHERE in my system. It just...works! I'm stoked that I just solved my own problem without having to go out and buy any additional monitoring hardware, but really baffled as to how this is actually working. Any ideas? In any case, if anyone ever wants to do this...just follow the steps in paragraph 2 here. Thanks for all your help guys!

That's what I have done for 2 years and yes it does work just fine. AFAIK, that's why they put those jacks on there.
