Thanks so much for all your replies. I don't think it would be a defragging issue as the computer is only a few weeks old and has done nothing but reaper and a few CD rips. It has on board video, I'll check that out. Since the comp it is only a few weeks old, I'll take it back tomorrow, and get a quad with more ram and W7, I'll even splurge for 10,000 rpm drives. I really hope it is that cause I'm really digging Reaper. Cross yer fingers for me! I'd rather make music that screw around with configurating a comp, so thank you.

I've just done a really silly test.I've duplicated a 44.1k 24 bit Guitar track 27 times. No VSTS and played them and there's NO CPU use! :O So it's most likely a VST that was causing the problem methinks unless there is/was something else on the system causing it.

Have you disable user account control? I found it caused similar problems with asio on my laptop, but since i turned it off, no problems.

Ok, here is another weird thing it the digital distortion thin seems to be coming more often out of the second set of outputs on my Aurora, these are the ones I send to headphones. This morning I got tons of tracks recorded just listening to the mains without issue, but the sound in the headphones was all scrambled up! Until I hit the ASIO tab thing at the top right of the reaper screen, then it goes away again...of course I have to stop play back for this

Did you find a resolution to this? I'm on the fence about purchasing the aurora 16 + aes16e as I've heard the drivers are instable.. Thanks!
