Thanks, Ran Dpclat, shows no spikes. Says I should be able to stream video and audio. Increased buffers to the point I can't overdub, useless and didn't work anyhow. I got 15 tracks to play back at 96k, but, still getting nasty crashes and ASIO drops all the time. COuld it be that the audio is on the C drive? I did not want to install my new drive till I know Reaper/Lynx works to my liking (I think it will). DO I need 10,000 rpm drives? Will moving to a quad/W7 help?
I really don't think its a hard drive problem, the buffers are probably to low, try moving them up and see how that works, try 256 or 512 if you have the option.

In your place I would defrag the C drive and increase (if possible) the amount of RAM. (Increasing RAM seems to be the best single thing you can do to almost any computer system to improve performance. It doesn't always work, but... it's close.) Faster disk *will* help, so will extra processing power - and as squeaky-clean an installation of Windows as you can possibly manage. Keep on asking, don't struggle on your own. Mike
Are you using an nvidia video card? I am and had a similar problem on Windows 7 (32 bit). If you are using nvidia then try downloading RivaTuner and use it to underclock/lock your video card to 2d performance. This cleaned up all my dropout and disconnection problems with my firewire audio card.
