What sample rate are you bouncing to? Do you use Dither?

Hey Swamp, describe how it sounds a little further for us please. Does the bass stand out too much, or does the mix just get muddy when you bounce it? For bouncing down, the standard so to speak is Stereo Interleaved, 16 bit, 44,100 samples, and I usually do Tweakhead (slowest) on mine for the best audio quality on the bounce. For the Dithering, usually when I am mixing I will just add it on my master fader when I am just about finished up with the mix and about ready to bounce down. Try playing your mix on a couple different sets of speakers if you can too. Sometimes it might be the way a room is tuned, or the quality of the speakers you're playing something on. Goodluck
Don't get me wrong I love protools but, the bounce to disc function ....well, let's just say if you don't have to..... don't, it really does change the sound.

What Digidesign hardware are you using? If you have an MBox - make sure the Mix knob is set all the way to 'playback' while mixing. If you have an 001 or 002 make sure that Low Latency Mode is not enabled while mixing. When reducing the resolution from a 24 bit session to 16 bit.. insert a dither plug-in on the mix buss' master fader set to the bounce's final resolution. Rail
I really do not see or hear that much of a difference in sound when bouncing. So far everything I have bounced sounds pretty damm good to me. I usually bounce at 24bit/48k with a Waves L-3 on the master bus and open it in Wavelab for editing. Eric M.

i bounce to 16 bit, 44,100 it really differs and the sound change sometimes the music is louder other times the vocals? and im a newb but when you all say "muddy" that mean kinda distorted? and i do have a mbox thnx for all the tips so far
Swamp: you might want to work on your levels if it is sounding distorted when you are listening to playback. Like Rail mentioned, make sure your mix knob is set all the way to playback while mixing also. I would check out and see if your levels are peaking into the red in PT when you are recording things though for starters. You generally want the loudest part of a song to hit in the yellow when you record enable a track in PT just before it hits the red for the best quality. That gives you the best control of your mix when you are working on everything after you finish recording it. This particular "level" is also called 0 db (decibels/how loud something is) in the engineering world. When you work on other stuff like EQ and what not down the road you'll see that you can do frequency cuts on your tracks to make room for everything also. I have a lot of stuff about mic techniques and EQ on my site in my signature under the studio section that you might want to check out if you're interested that might help you also man. man, I was going to go into your other post about the school thing also and tell you that there are some great books that helped me get started when I got into this stuff back in the day also. One of the best is called: . Many audio students use this book as their bible pretty much... Goodluck
