Autosaving everything?

Hey all, Just started using REAPER with all my new recording gear (first time at all of this). I'm just working with the basics now, but one thing I have realised is REAPERs tendency to autosave everything that I record (every track) without me specifying it to save. Just automatically shoves it into REAPERmedia folder until I started rendering/exporting a couple of recordings and now it's throwing them in the folder I made for those. Why is it autosaving all of these individual tracks? And is there a way to stop this feature? Thanks, Jordan.

Hiya Jordan, Go to Preferences, Audio, Recording and enable the option Prompt to save/delete new files.

I saw that and thought that might do the trick haha. So if I don't want to keep the recording I have to manually delete it that way every time I record a track? The other thing is that I often hit record to begin and then record again to stop so it bypasses this screen - will that then just autosave it without me having any input into the decision? *EDIT* Another thing I would like to know is these autsaved (or promted saved now) tracks MUST be kept in order for a saved project which includes these tracks to be used? I deleted some tracks and it made my project save useless. I'm just thinking; if in order to use your saved projects to continue working on them later, you have to keep all the saved track recordings with it doesn't this get messy? Instead of one file for the project you may have five or six + (depending on how many tracks you have of course).. How do you guys manage this to keep it all tidy for each song/session you record? Sorry for the long post + I hope it's understandable, haha. Cheers, Jordan.

Wow, thanks! You guys have been very helpful. So those shortcuts are assigned by yourslef if you go to options>keyboard? Another thing; now that I know you only have to keep the saved tracks that correspond with a save project, how do you guys manage your saved stuff? For example do you make a folder with the song/project name and just throw everything for that project in there? Because it's to my understanding that (unless on the recently saved projects list) you need to find the project file you want and open that, but it may however be difficult with hundreds of saved tracks everywhere.. And I was experimenting and found that if I moved the project file away from its saved tracks folder it would open but be unable to find the directory for those tracks (unless of course I browsed for them). So the question is, any suggestions on how to manage each individual project with all its tracks so that is easy to find/access? Cheers, Jordan.
