Not too sure about the 185bhp D5 but i use Mobil 1 0/40W in my 163bhp D5..

Thanks for the replies. Oil doesnt seem to be an exact science, does it? I've gone for Mobil 1 0w-40. Regards

I e-mailed Castrol about it and they confirmed the only suitable oil as Castrol SLX R-Tec 0W-30. You can get this pretty easily from Volvo dealers. Castrol suggested the nearest alternative in their range to be EDGE Turbo diesel 5W-40. If your car is on the 18k miles interval it is probably best to stick with the recomended brand.
