This might be hard to explain... When I move a channel fader there seems to be a blank spot around the 0db (unity) where it doesn't change the volume or its less responsive. It's actually very annoying! Anyone explain this? Also, the reading (vu) and the amount I move the fader don't seem to relate to each other. Anyway of calibrating it?? Thanks.
I'm not sure if what you are looking for is changeable... if you are talking about the fact that you move the fader about an inch on the screen and it only changes 1db +/-... thats to make more fine adjustments.. as you get below that the degree of change just up drastically. Around "Unity" or "0db" is acting as it was intended "i think" but you CAN change the reading of the VU meter which was mentioned above.. but changing the Minimum reading and the max. I have mine set to -70 and +12. if there is a way to change it maybe someone can chime in but i didn't see what you were looking for.
i agree... I haven't been here a long time either but I do tutorials for reaper and sometimes i do a video.... and they change the options a week later.. its kinda a bummer. I guess i'll start posting the reaper version in my videos so if it doesn't match up they know why... I guess thats the consequence of using a program that actually makes improvements constantly with a Dev team that listens to users :-) p.s. Maybe they can add an option to put menus back to previous versions. Then we can upgrade and if something isn't where we usually have it.. we can just swap back to the previous versions menu.
Yes, In this ONE thread people have been helpful! ;) I'm not sure I understand why there is this 'long-area' or 'soft-spot' around 0.db/unity (default fader position)
well all sound boards have that type of thing... Its to be more precise when you have your tracks setup with meters around 0db. I you want it to be all even changes i think you send it to 1 in the menu.

Most soundboards have log-curved fader scales that relate directly to the dB scale and how we perceive volume. I don't think they traditionally have the same kind of behaviour around 0dB, I think this is more a Reaper quirk. Go to vote for improvements in the fader scale, along with other important FRs :)
