Hi, unlike other Volvos I have owned, the 850 R doesn't light up automatically when the ignition is on. Is this a 'feature' or can I turn the lights on? I have looked for a specific fuse, but none is listed. I have already flattened the battery once by leaving the sidelights on. [I also had the 'fog lights' on as the only thing they seem useful for is daytime driving lights.] I have come to rely on having the lights on; other cars warn you if you have left the lights on by 'bonging' at you, but the Volvo doesn't. It seems like a design shortfall to me - perhaps a deliberate attempt to distance the 'R' version from "normal boring Volvo Estates"? The user manual I have is for a standard 850 and doesn't have any 'R' specific information in it; it doesn't even have the stereo instructions, which is a pain. Cheers Dave R

Hi It will be on the headlight switch itself there is a little grub screw that can be turned that will allow the operation of the DRL and will turn them off when the ignition is off, regrads Gary,

If you have a read of your book, it shows how to alter from UK-Canadian-German spec and as the headlights are the same on all 850's the R bit isn't relavent, just adjust as if were a standard 850 (one of the few things that is the same, lol).

[I couldn't find any reference in the handbook] Now established that straight up and to the right both give dipped headlights. There is no 'dim dip' option. So when I go from 'no lights' (i.e. running lights) to side lights using the main switch the lights dim. One more turn to headlights and they are bright again. Shame, really - I would have preferred the dim dip option.
