could someone explain what this is as regards to a v70 n/a as i have never heard of it before? What symptoms can a damaged/ worn one be? Thanks

the flame trap is part of the crank case venting system a badly blocked one causes build up of pressure in the crank case which needs to escape somewhere often the rear main seal the breather system is easy to replace diy check the 850 maintenance forum it is a similar if not identicle procedure for the v70 i think

The actual flame trap itself , the perforated disc was deleted by Volvo a long time ago , if it has been sercviced properly you wont have one ...

Hello Jod , The pipes and housing are left as standard but the actual flame trap disc is removed , ... It has been part of the Volvo service scedule for at least 7 or 8 years now to check for removal .. I don't think they have had any sumps explode yet :-) but lots of neglected cars had them blocked causing leaks .
