Reaper metering question

Aka, MP3s suck.

Could this be another pan-laws issue?? Reaper defaults to 0dB where as most others I've worked with are -3dB That may explain it - I'm sure some of the more experienced users can clarify this. Mike

I've had this happen. Some bug with importing mp3s into Reaper. Dragged an mp3 in Reaper told me the peak was at +7.9 dB. Sounded that way too! Decoded the same file with Razor Lame and dragged it in on a new track. Peaks at 0 dB.

Maybe the other DAWs normalize the file if the peaks are above 0dB?
