Hi, I have a G4 single processor 867mhz, with 640mb RAM, Digi002 with 2x40gig drives (one is split and used as the main drive where all apps are installed). I just wondered what the track count I *should* be able to achieve is? As I did some recording on the weekend and I was having big problems recording 2 at once. I increased the buffer size, recorded the audio to a different drive, turned off my reverb plugin (D-Verb) and changed my sample rate to 24/44.1. In the end I had to go with one track at a time or for two go with 16/44.1 - which sucks! Can anyone give me advice on how I might beef this up or are there settings & prefs I need to activate/deactivate? All this gear is new to me so I'm still finding my feet. Thanks, rh

I used to use a 001 through a G4 400 with 768 megs of RAM, and two 40 gig hard drives (one for apps/os, the other for audio only). I was running under OS9.2.2, PTLE 5.0.1. I could record 16 tracks at once @ 44.1/24 bit with no problem. I usually had the buffer set at 256. Largest session I had was 22 tracks with a couple of AUX tracks and a master fader, not that many plug ins. With my PowerBook (1Ghz, 512 megs of RAM, 40 gig, 4200 RPM internal hard drive, USB2 external 60 gig, 7200 RPM hard drive), and my 002R, I can record 16 tracks at once also, no problems for up to 3 hours with no issues. I normally have my buffer set at 1024 because I am normally recording live shows with this set up. I haven't run any sessions bigger than my old set up, but so far, no real issues.
How did you get your external drive on the powerbook to work? I'm trying to get the same setup to work: PowerBook (1.33GHZ 17") Digi002 rack LaCie P2 7200 rpm drive (Using the USB2 connector as the PB only has one Firewire port) I have the drive in the USB2 port, in the Workspace Browser I can NOT set it as a Recording volume or Playback Volume for Audio, though it automatically is set to "R" for Video... assuming that's what the V column is. ProTools keeps telling me the external drive isn't a Recording/Playback drive. How do I change this? Cheers
If I daisy chain the drive off the Digi002 rack it is still not recognised as an Audio Playback/Record Volume and I can't set it to be one in the Workspace Browser. The Drive is a LaCie P2 60G 7200 rpm Firewire/USB2.0 drive. It is a "mobile" drive, ie a 2" laptop size drive, but 7200 rpm which LaCie assured me would be perfect for my needs. Another piece of information that may or may not be relevant: The drive is formatted as "Macintosh PC Exchange (MS-DOS)", the factory format it came preformatted to. The drive needs to be viewable on both PC and Mac so I can work on either. "Macintosh PC Exchange (MS-DOS)" is what comes up as Format in OSX when I do Get Info on the drive, under windows it displays as a FAT32 drive. UPDATE: I've reformatted the drive as HFS+ Journalled and it's working fine. Obviously that means I can't read it on a PC, is there no way that ProTools Mac can have a Fat32 drive flagged as "R" in the Workspace Browser?

Here's another related problem: I'm getting this error with a drive freshly formatted (and with all my sessions copied over to it). It was working with Journaled HFS+ formatted in Disk Utility, but I needed a FAT32 partition for PC compatibility. So I created a Journaled HFS+ and FAT32 partition in terminal using diskutil: diskutil partitionDisk /dev/disk1 2 MBRFormat JournaledHFS+ Mac 45G MS-DOS Win 20G This command creates a Journaled HFS+ partition and an MS-DOS partition to fill the remainder of the disk. Now when I try to play I get the "DAE error -9131". Any thoughts on this? Is it posisble to get the dual partitions working correctly so ProTools can flag the Journaled HFS+ partition as a recording and playback audio volume?
