Hi there. I have the mBox companion drive (80 Gig)that I recorded up to 24 live outdoor tracks of 24 bit audio using my Mix Cubed system on July 1, 2002. We've beaten it up with lots of Beat Detective using close to 60 tracks, and it's great! I also recently purchased the LaCie 120 Gig drive that I recorded 16 tracks of 24 bit audio from another live performance. I should also add that I successfully edited three sets of 16 tracks from the SAME LaCie drive to make good takes.(the group played to a click. It's fun editing in groups of 16...) I had 48 tracks of 24 bit audio running through the firewire port of my Tibook 800 through the Magma 4 slot chassis. Absolutely amazing. The advantages of the Glyph Mbox drive is that it has the built in power supply, temperature sensitive fan, and it looks cool.. Rugged metal chassis. The disadvantages of it is that you can't put the drive sideways. It has to stand up vertically. And as you mentioned, it's expensive. The advantages of the LaCie drives is that they are even more rugged than the Glyph, and you can mount them horizontally or vertically. You can also get an adapter and place two of them in a 1U rack space! They are very affordable. The disadvantages of the LaCie drive is that they use the stupid wall wart. Argh. They both work wonderful for audio production, recording, and editing, however. If you want to save $$, go with LaCie. Thanks, and God bless! Craig Learmont
