Hello all guitar players. I was curious to know what powerage of pickups you find works best with the modeling software out these days (GR3, Revalver, Line 6, etc.). Are you using low output, med. ouput, or high output pups? Seems I never turn my amp on anymore, only the computer . . .

Use whatever pickups you like for real amps, since the idea is the same.

People often forget you can also use stomp boxes to good effect in just the same way you would in front of a real amp. Why use software if you have a pedal you like the sound of. It also gives you a bit of useful outboard control of your input. I often go through my little Danelectro Fab box and it beefs up an amo sim somthin' rotten :D

My main axe is a Mexican made Strat with Carvin pickups installed. C22B humbucker at the bridge with AP11's in neck and middle. 98% of my playing is through a POD XT Live. These are "medium" output pickups and are wonderful IMO. Very, very good dynamics. Enough output to really kick when you dig in and clean up nicely when you back off. My other axe is a Gretsch Electromatic Pro-Jet with the stock Made in China pickups. They're on the low side of medium output. Bridge and neck combined is okaaayyy at best. Bridge alone rocks pretty well and cleans up great with dynamic playing or rolling the volume knob down a tad. The neck pickup alone is kinda "wooly". I'd love to drop some TV Jones pups in it... but hey the pickups would be worth more than the entire guitar! Maybe some GFS mini-buckers or something... someday... I was pretty skeptical when I went POD but am now a convert. It's a really, really nice tool. You'll a gazillion different answers on this one! :D D

I added a Seymour Duncan TB-4 to my bridge position, and it crunches up the virtual amps a bit more but the level seems to be fine. Great pickup.

Pickups? "Who needs steekin' peekups?" I went with a Variax. Lots of pickup options there. :) What I really like is that there is no interference sound or buzzes. Dead quiet. Almost scary! I bought the 300 model to try it out and now would like to buy the pricer one someday. Running it through a Toneport UX2.

Thanks for the replies everyone!! I was just thinking that high ouput (you know, those mega-voltage killers) may be too noisey to record with . . .
