I would like to trigger drums samples with a playable pad set. (something self contained) I have seen some Akai pads that seem to be popular. Can anyone make a recommendation for such a unit? I am not looking for a "full kit" of individual drum pads that would be played just like a real drum set, just a "box" with 9-12 square pads that I can use to trigger samples from Sample tank or any of the other sample libraries. Thanks! Joel

Let's make this a bit shorter so anyone could try to help me. What I'm basicly asking is this: 1) How do you get natural sounding drums to your songs (prefered style of music is hard rock) with out recording real drums with a great drummer, this should be easy 2) If you use pads to record you MIDI drum tracks, what kind of set-up do you have?

I do MIDI drums, triggering samples, and I program most of the drums manually in PT. Then I add "flaws" and vary the velocities so it sounds more like a real drummer. Occasionally, for tricky parts, I use my , through my . I don't use the sounds in the D4 at all. Kind of an old set-up, but it works for me. I also have the trigger inputs of the D4 patched into a patch bay, so I can use any source to trigger samples.

Why don't you just use a midi keyboard? Personally, I use reason adapted's redrum with a midi keyboard to get my drum parts down.
