Hello I just got all of the needed components for my upgrade; I know several guys here on the DUC already have a similar configuration, so what I'd need is a step by step procedure to have the thing assembled and set up in a trouble free way, as I need this system to be working without issues in the shortest time possible (work in progress). Now, the components list: Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard Athlon 64 x2 4400 2 x 512 Mb DDR400 PC 3200 Corsair Value (CAS 2.5) Matrox P750 triple head video card Maxtor 40Gb P-ATA 100 boot drive Zalmann CNPS 700A-CU quiet CPU cooler Enermax Quiet Power supply Full Tower case with 2 x12 Cooler Master Super Silent fans (1 front 1 back) Adaptec 2940SCSI controller (for the SCSI Yamaha CDRW burner) Plextor DVDRW Lacie firewire controller Promise Ultra 100 TX2 IDE controller (for the removable audio drives, but I guess I will be able to ditch this for the built in controller that's on the mobo). Win XP Pro 002R I Also would like to set up two different partitions on the main drive to have PTLE 6.9cs4 on one and PTLE 7 on the other (you never know...). I'm already familiar with PC building, but I red somewhere that this setup has some quirks that are a bit tricky, and that somebody already ironed out. Thank you very much for your help L.G.

Why a SCSI card and burner when there are tons of excellent IDE drives? Where is your audio drive(not on your list). I have no problem with the dual boot but are you sure you can't have version 6.9 AND version 7 both installed? Anyway, you don't need to partition the drive to have dual boot. Sorry I am not giving you simple answers but I know you want to end up with a great working setup and you may need to consider these points. Okay, I see you are going with other drives for audio which is good. Is the Lacie firewire card on the approved list?

It would be easier if you had the OS drives in trays as well. I do that and it makes what you are describing very, very easy; no dual boot necessary.

Absolutely... having the sys drive on a tray is a great idea for many reasons.

i have built a few systems on the A8V board. really simple. you just put it together, power up, disable unnecessary crap in BIOS, install the OS and drivers and you're away! i'd install the VIA SATA driver from XP's hardware manager as the installer on the ASUS CD installs a RAID setup utility that you will not use.
