When you double click on a MIDI item on a track and it brings up the timeline/grid thing with the keyboard on the left, how do you get that to play drum sounds? Does reaper come with drum sounds? If so, how do I find and use them to make a track with them on the timeline/keyboard thing. Do I need a drum sounds VSTi? Im new to this program, I need some help!

Yes, you need drum sounds. Go to KVRaudio.com to find some drum sound VSTi's. Install them, open one up, arm the track, select your midi input, find the notes that trigger the specific sounds...and have fun.

Hi Dev and welcome to the Reaper forums! Yes, you need a VSTi to program drums. Reaper doesn't come with one for drumming. There are lots of 'em - also freebies. Google! -Data

Dev. i use drum core that came with computermusic.co.uk magazine a couple of months ago. works great in reaper. comes with lots of midi patterns and a few drum kits. i load up dc on a trak n drag onto the trak the midi patterns et voila.. real drums. its not 400 buk drum software but good for roughing out songs. look for my full review awhile back, i think in the lounge .

Thanks so much for the help guys! Ok, so I downloaded Digidrum Pro, and put the files in a VSTplugins folder, and i found it in the list of plugins in Reaper. When i open it it brings up the Digidrum program thing, and Reaper asks if I would like to add "stereo 1/2 new track 2 left out - 9/10 new track 6 left out." I dont know what this means but I click yes. So then I go to the first track named "Digidrum Pro" and create a midi object thing, double click it to bring up the piano/timeline screen and turn on record monitoring because i read somewhere thats how you get sound. But when I click the ivory keys, no sound comes out execpt for on 3 keys. I cant get sound out of the other tracks it added either. Am i doing something wrong? Should I try a different plugin? If so are there any plugins any of you recommend that i can get for free? Thanks!
