H.264 and MKV will be with us for quite a while to come, don't worry. :) It's a superior codec to VP8 and Theora, too.

That answer doesn't really have anything to do with anything. DV25 is superior to H.264...it's irrelevant. I'm asking is there a way to work with open codecs like VP8 and Theora to make x64 video work in Reaper, since it doesn't.

Nope, unfortunately x64 dos not work. The x64 builds that exist are broken. The main dev says he wont look into it until like march or later (if he feels like it). That leaves only dv25 which is WAY too huge for normal exchange btw audio and video guys who use H.264 prevalently.

Hmm... I wonder how easily/quickly Cockos could 'bridge' a 32bit player component with x64 Reaper.

Don't know but I'm just as curious if there's way to do it with the open standards, seems like it would be easier...

Oh bum, nobody bothered tell my computer video is broken in x64, 'cos it's still playing practically everything I throw at it! Wonder what I'm doing wrong? Steve

So...you're loading H.264 into 64bit Reaper and it works? Sure about that? Pls post your version of Reaper, version of Windows and version of FFMpeg...

Yeah, please provide that info eepyikes just asked, I'd be really interested in seeing if there's something we're missing because H.264 is completely broken here, for a long time now.

Windows 7 64 bit, Reaper x64 v3.74, the codecs are from K-Lite 64 bit and ffmpeg 64 bit, haven't looked specifically for H.264, but I do use that one quite a bit. I just dropped in avi, wmv, mpg files at random and they played without a hitch. One file only played the keyframes, but that was an mp4 so I'm not too bothered. If I find out which one it was I could let you know the codec used if you're interested. Steve Edit Just made a quick H.264 vid, and yes only the keyframes played in x64. However there are still plenty of other codecs that work flawlessly in x64. If you really need to use that one then convert it after you've made the soundtrack in Reaper.
