Anyone ever come up with a solution to the intermittent mouse &/or keyboard freezes with the *non* AGP G4 or BW G3's ? PTLE is the *only* app that ever does this to me... G4/400pci/OS 9.1/LE 5.1.1/OMS 2.3.8/QT 4.1.2/BASE set/512k cache/never sleep/trashed prefs, yadda, yadda...

I don't know if this related to a problem I was chasing for the last 3 months but I discovered that I had a memory leak in the Control Strip application. After the CPU had been on for several hours the whole system would get slower and slower. I had all the Energy Saver functions disabled so it was not a CPU sleep issue. Sometimes I would get a sticky pointer and marginal performance in Pro Tools. Try to disable the control panel and extension for the Control Strip and see if that helps. That is if you are running OS 9. Another thought is that you may have a USB overload. Do you have any other USB devices on the chain to your mouse. This is particularly an issue with a Trackball type mouse. Try unplugging the mouse or trackball and replugging it when the problem occurs and see if the sticky pointer goes away. Good luck!

I was having this problem this weekend when I was trying to Mix. I had a total of 24 tracks with some Aux tracks running out via SPDIF to an external effects unit. Also, had plugins on a number of channels. Seems that if I went to fast it would lock up the keyboard. Then again, it happened all the time regardless. I could still use the mouse but it is a pain since I use the keyboard a lot when I am doing stuff on PTLE. I also had the mouse lock up once. I would not mind as much but this was a constant issue with me yesterday and was happening continously to the point where it was making it difficult to work. I have a G4/533 DP with 512 MB RAM, 40 Gig Internal HD, External UW SCSI Tower (audio files, etc), lightpipe to RME ADI-8 Pro synced with Lucid Genx6, SPDIF to a TC Electronics M-One XL. Anyone have any ideas? I seem to see a few posts about this topic when I search but no definitive answers or solutions. Thanks, Michael

This is an on-going problem for me. I have a blue & white 450 mhz G3, and I'm constantly unplugging the mouse and/or keyboard. 90% of the time, replugging them in will get them to work again, but occassionaly I'll lose both while a song is in play or record mode, and the only option is to reboot. Its a pain in the butt, and makes me look like a fool in front of clients. By the way, I do graphics work for my day gig, and I've NEVER had a mouse or keyboard drop out on me...not once. I'm sure its a USB problem, but it baffles me why it only happens with PTLE. I get less problems when I use the el cheapo MacAlly keyboard and mouse. The Apple "pro" model keyboard and mouse increase the frequency of dropouts. Good luck, and PLEASE post any solutions you come up with. regards, Dave Patteson
