I recently bought a 2001 S40 2T SE and I need to renew my Insurance. As my Insurance company has now quoted a figure that is laughable, I trawled the net for Car Insurance. On one site I came across, a question is asked about which car alarm/immobiliser is fitted to my vehicle, so apologies for being a dipstick, but where do I find the model name of my car alarm? I was requested to choose from a list of approx 10 different alarms/immobilisers and frankly, I haven't a clue where I will find this information. I have checked all my vehicle's documentation with no joy, and I'm not sure where the alarm is fitted within the vehicle to find the answer. Any help gratefully received.
Thanks CTCNetwork. Looking at the list, my car appears to be included in the VGLA40 group which is similar to one of the options given. I would still like to know (curiosity factor) where this information can be found within the car. Is it printed on the alarm itself, and if so, can the alarm be seen by opening up the bonnet?
Hi, Not knowing the S40/V40 range I wouldn't be able to tell you where the alarm box is located. Or even if it is intergrated with the car ECU... The most important factor, from the insurance point of view, is that it has been Thatcham approved as Cat 1. This being the highest catagory available. Or certified as Cat 2, the next best option. You should be selecting maker fitted and the option for thatcham grade/approval should be there. Des. . . ;)
Many thanks again CTCNetwork for the info. I have taken a look under the bonnet but cannot fathom out where the alarm is (assuming it can be seen), so your information is extremely helpful. Regards, Volvogal 1 :)
The alarm box is behind the panel under the steering wheel just above your feet(the 1 that's like a little shelf ),it's grey in colour and has 2 multi plugs in it.Can't remember if there's any writing on it though.Hope this helps Gareth
Many thanks Ex Bmw owner. I would never have thought of looking for it there. When it's daylight and I have a few minutes, I'll take a look. Regards, Volvogal 1
