I've tried the Joy2Key route, but I'm not a fan of the latency that I get with that. I would love to be able to modify the script that Reaper now has native for rockband drums, but I have a wii set and I have absolutely no idea how to change the damn pad map. Anybody care to share on what means what in that script?
This is freaking sweet! I can't wait to try this out. Almost every day I find myself looking at my Rock Band 2 kit sitting there and I always wonder if there is a way to use it as a MIDI controller in Reaper. Now I know how. Thanks!

Sorry to bring an old thread back, but I've been wondering if this works fairly well or not. I know it's not going to be like having a Roland kit, but if I decide to buy a RB kit w/extra cymbals & such, does it work with what's included in the RB kit, or do I have to buy a "drum brain" to make it work??? This would be really cool for getting quick-n-dirty beats down, but would like to know a little more before I go buy the RB kit/waste my money.....Also, I've never used a RB kit, do you assign a pad/cymbal for the hi-hat, or what??? I'm not a drummer, always just used MIDI beats/fills/loops to make my drum tracks before.....I'd been planning on picking up 2 used RB kits, & put them "together" to have extra pads/cymbals. Would this work????Any info on this would be greatly appreciated!!!!
I have the Band Hero kit. It has a MIDI in and OUT on the controller and it is velocity sensitive. It's a pretty cool piece of kit because not only can it be used as a midi controller, but the controller is detachable from the kit. This means if you have a spanky roland V-Drum setup, you can attach the controller to the MIDI out and play rockband and all the variants with your awesome kit.

the kit has two purple 3.5mm connections and 1 black 3.5mm at the back. The purple are for separate kicks which are momentary switches, not latch. I assume the black one is for a hi-hat; but that is just speculation.
Last year, before I bought my E-Kit, i was experimenting with the Rock Band kits. I actually had two Rock Band kits set up together to control one instance of Superior Drummer. That gave me 8 pads and 2 pedals to work with. It was really cool and worked reasonably well. I also used an expression pedal attached to a keyboard to use as a high hat pedal. I had to use 3 tracks in Reaper (One for each kit and one for the keyboard for the hats pedal) and added sends from each track to a 4th track with Superior Drummer on it. I used a program called rb2midi and a midi loopback driver called Loopbe30 (demo). You can find the program and instructions to set it all up in the following ink. I highly recommend this method. In order to get it working with 2 kits at the same time I had to run two instances of RB2MIDI and assign each kit to output different cc values, but it worked quite well. As much fun as it was playing around with though, all it really did was make me want to get a real e-kit even more, so after about a month of playing around with it I endep buying an Alesis USB studio kit. I love my Alesis E-Kit, but it was the Rock Band kit that got me started drumming.
