I have just bought a pioneer dvd player which can play divx 3/4and5 and have encounted a problem when viewing some avi's. What i have is an .avi file with embeded subs so the prob is they are just below the screen so i can just see the tip of the letters of the subs. I have tried all the video settings and none let me see the full subs. So now my question is, is there a way to modify the avi so it will allow me to see the subs. I thought i might be able to add a black bar on the bottom of the avi so i pushes everything up but i'm not sure how to do this or if it is even possible.

4:3 letterbox yields pretty much the same as 4:3 pan&scan where you can only see the tips of the letters. 16:9 widescreen give the best results but only marginally. Oh and I have a windscreen tv but i tried on my normal one too and it has the same problems.

Do the original DVDs that you made the .AVIs from exhibit the same behaviour when you play them on your Pioneer?

Then you'd probably be best served to make NEW DivX-compressed .AVIs from your original DVDs - and move the subtitles up using "SubEdit"...
