do you sidechain kick and bass for rock music?

hello...i heard about this sidechain thing but i was wondering if you just try EQ kick and bass at different positions rather than using sidechain is sidechain more for dance music or something?

More for when one half of the rhythm section has timing issues! :D

Never unless the bass player can't play.

I do volume adjustments manually, according to ear, and according to the way I feel the piece/song needs to be developed. Not via chaining. It may depend on what is meant by "rock music".
