Hey guys, I know this problem extends from another post, but I have the problem narrowed down. The problem is, my computer will not completely start up if my QUE FIRE CD burner is plugged in. If I unplug the fire wire cable, or turn the que fire off before start up it will start fine. Anyone with any clue what the problem could be? thanks chad
get and run conflict catcher, or do it the old fashioned way. Select all extensions from m-z and disable, restart. If problem gone, return extensions one letter at a time, rebooting each time. Conflict Catcher much easier, and when purchased as part of the (available at CompUSA or online) gives you the best utilities package going for the Mac.

Try going to versiontracker.com and see if you have the proper fire wire drivers. You may need a newer fire wire driver. This was a common problem with the Blue and White G3's Good Luck
MS41, My only problem with that, is that I have no clue what to look for when I get there. I saw like ten things to update fire, how do I know which update is for me? Man this sucks!!! All I want to do is burn CD's like i used to. I have been running this thing on my mac for at least a year, and all of a sudden one day, it just wont boot up, cuz of the damn fire wire.

Cable? We need to keep in mind, cold-hardening (bending the dang thing) will propagate echoes- 'cause of the higher impedance. These are unforgiving square waves. It would be good to have a Firewire control panel for testing and...for example: to set the blasted thing to 'basic' etc. .02 fleas
Shaggy, I hate to sound ignorant, but I dont think I understood a word you said. I never move the thing around, so I dont think the cable is damaged. thanks chad

One other thing: If you are using Conflict Catcher instead of the Apple Extensions Manager control panel, it will show the Firewire Enabler extension, but not the Firewire Support extension. You'll have to open your System Folder -> Extensions folder and make sure that Firewire Support is there and not in your Extensions (Disabled) folder.
