Heck, I'm running 5.3.1 along with Logic on OS 9.2.2 (DP 1Ghz MD G4) connected to the internet (through a firewall router, of course) and it doesn't cause one speck of difficulty. I think nothing of transferring files using Fetch while I'm working on a session. As far as I'm concerned, the days of worrying about this kind of thing are over. Hardware doesn't need to be babied anymore. Lee Blaske
I have the same results as Lee. I often download/upload files via fetch or browser or local network with no problems. Sometimes graphics will slow down a bit if a remote user is pulling a large file from me but thats about it.

MacOS X 10.2.6/PT 6.0.1 no problems being connected to net at all. Going out through ethernet/adsl not a modem though - don't know if that would throw a spanner in the works.
No problems here either. I got Safari, MSN Messenger, and Mail all running while I record/edit/mix on PT HD. The computer I'm using is a 1.25gig Dual with OS X (latest)
Thanks for the input guys. Ordered another modem today, this will keep me from having to try to find my computer for all my kids surrounding the internet CPU now;) Bellsouth says their router has firewall built in, is that enough to be safe, or do any of you use Norton Firewall or the like? I'm on a Mac...
In years past, I think there was a network related extension in OS9 that some reported conflicted with PT. Consequently, Digi said, don't connect the computer to the internet (or Network). Then they offer you the option of downloading the patches to their program directly off the net. Hmmmmm! Digi has a hard time reversing themselves at times - even when the obvious says they should (Example: The "don't use FW drives" statement) Digi still has not said it's ok to use them for production, but they have their own high priced model. Another hmmmmm!Typical huh?. Use the net all you want. On the Windows XP side it may be different cause the OS uses the same IE engine as Internet Explorer. If you have a drive letter mapped to an ftp site or network share, it may cause some issues. In general though, use it. Just watch out for viruses that can corrupt and wipe your drives clean.
