I picked up a Mac and a book on Objective C to write iPhone apps so... some weeks from now when I've gotten my feet really wet I plan to join you guys here. I hope.

Cool! :) You'd wanna learn C++ though, if you are planning to do Reaper related things.

Mr. X, I may (almost certainly) need your help from time to time if you don't mind. I'm willing to give help in return in any way that I can - I have no idea what that might be :D - I can PayPal you a few bucks if you like... I certainly don't want to freeload on your knowledge. Here's where I am so far.... 1. I've got a general grip on the basic behavioral method stuff that I'll get back more into later as I start coding the application behaviors. 2. I've spent most of the day studying class instances. :( Of course in VB - except with custom classes - the foundation class instances are created automatically for you when you drag drop them, so this was a brand new step for me. I've got the basic theory down and I can now write code in the .h and .m files to make the objects in the class instances talk to each other. As I go forward I will need to occasionally post some code for someone to look at. Do you mind sir? I'm making some real progress here considering I've never dealt with C ever in my life. :) I'll have a basic "frame up" of an iPhone app running in a couple of days. From there it'll just be tackling the behaviors. Let me know. I don't have a problem paying you for your time.

Just ask away! :) Of course I don't mind any donations... ;) But I don't know if I am able to help you so much, especially as I don't know about Objective C so much, it's pretty much an Apple spesific thing, and as I still can't run OS-X, I am a bit out of loop with that one. Objective C has it's own different approach to objects and how to use them compared to C++. As far as I have been able to tell, it's mostly a convenience language to accessing Apple's Cocoa framework. (Which deals a lot with GUI stuff, but is also becoming Apple's only and preferred framework to do most other things on OS-X too.)

Oh, I have to say I don't understand much at all about that Objective C code... :( Quite a different beast than C++.

hmmmnnn like I really have the time, but I can dream. so I need to ask the question, how hard will it be to learn some C/C++ having had a few years of Java programming under my belt. Certainly I know that the syntax should be familiar enough to actually cause me a heap of headache, but with the rest of the crew here writing useful extensions faster than I can keep up with new core functionality I am feeling like a selfish leecher :D So what do you guys think? I did download the M$ compiler (free one thanks to Schwa for pointing it out in another thread somewhere) and got Codeblocks (I think) as an ide. So should I take the plunge sometime What I am thinking is writing an app that I can use to control midi loops of different lengths going to different tracks, sort of a vst version of Ableton's clips and session view. And this I am thinking of cause the genius programmers out there are too busy doing other things and would have to charge a lot of money for something like this
