Help newbie in distress

Hello all. Downloaded reaper recently after reading good reports online and I must say it deffo looks the part. Just one problem so far. That would be me! I am not highly technically minded re software. I can get a recording out of most of the software I have tried previously and even managed some multi track folky stuff for my mates with their protools set up,but with reaper I have found a snag. What the hell is one supposed to do with the message"cant write to recording files,does directory exist?"mean please? I have been looking through the wiki and the pdf and cant recognise the reference. Thing is I have limited time to play with it and realy needed to be able to download and be up and running. I know it will turn out to be easy and obvious but I am gonna need a big hint I am afraid. I have downloaded the vista 64 version please help. Cheers Tim

Ah, I've just managed to recreate this. Under Options\Preferences\Recording, I added an x to my Default recording path, which made it a non-existent directory (see picture below) Under Options\Preferences\Recording, check your settings to make sure you've got an existing directory specified for your default recording path.
