Another approach, which you may find even easier is making this setting in Preferences > Mouse Modifiers: So with this approach, you can just leave Snap turned ON (so the magnet icon highlighted) and a mouse leftclick in the Arrange area will never snap to Grid but will place the Edit Cursor exactly where you did your mouse leftclick.
