Can\'t get Mackie Baby HUI to work with 6.1

I purchased and installed my 6.1 upgrade and everything went smoothly until I got this error: "Pro Tools is unable to communicate with HUI. Power cycle HUI and check its connections. Note, if HUI is not in use, update the Peripherals dialog to prevent further warnings." I went to the Setups>Peripherals menu to add the Baby HUI as my MIDI controller and it was not a choice. "HUI" was a choice, but not Baby HUI. I really can't remember if this was the case when I first got it with 5.3 last winter. Either way, it worked fine before the upgrade, and now it doesn't. I checked the PT manual, the Baby HUI manual, the Answerbase, and the MIDI Control Surfaces Guide but came up empty. The only other info I can give is that my only choice under the Recieve From and Send To menus is MP-401 once I designate HUI as my control surface. Do I have to download some kind of service pack, or am I just overlooking something stupid? Thanks for any help. James

I don't know what box you're using, but with the 002R you have to power up the unit first before booting your PC, or 6.1 won't recognize your MIDI ports. I have to turn on the 002R, then the Mackie Control...then the PC. Works like a charm. -Hope that helps.

HUI is a control format wether you use a Mackie Control Baby HUI or the HUI. The right choice is HUI. When you select that your send and receive should be your digi unit it's that easy. Hope that helps Ajay

I forgot to mention that I'm using the Digi001. Also, I always power the Baby HUI up before launching Pro Tools. Good suggestion though. I was able to get it working no problem when I bought it using 5.3. It has been working perfectly for about 6 months. But now, after upgrading to 6.1, the send/recieve pull down menus don't have the 001 MIDI in/out listed as a choice. The only option to choose is "MP-401". I'm not sure if this is even the problem. Any help is appreciated, I'm stumped. James

Uninstall your hardware, uninstall PT and reinstall. Im not sure if they updated the ASIO driver to include MIDI, but MIDI on the 001 with 5.3 will not work if you have that driver installed. PTs is not seeing its own MIDI ports, so you have a hardware config problem of some sort.

Matt, OK, I removed the 001 through the Device Manager and removed 6.1 through the Add/Remove Programs utility in the Control Panel. Then, I re-booted and re-installed 6.1, this time without the ASIO driver. This time HUI was automatically selected in the Peripherals menu BUT MP-401 is still the only choice in the Send and Recieve menus and the same error message came up. Did I do something wrong? Thanks for the help. James

GOT IT!!! After a little more research on the DUC, I ran MMERefresh.exe and I was able to choose Digi001 in the Send To and Receive From menus. I'm guessing I could have just done that after doing the initial uninstall of the ASIO driver, but oh well. Thanks to everyone for your help. James
