I am no newbie but I have the following problem.... I'm experiencing a problem in sychronizing my mp3 sound with the movies' avi file. First of all I think I should tell you the following: I opened the dvd with DVD2AVI saved it as "save project" in order to continue the procedure with GordianKnot. The movie had the following characteristics 16:9 ,29,970, film from 95-100% and as I read in a manual, I put the option in dvd2avi video/field operation/forcedFILM. I then continued the routine, GordianKnot and later Virtualdub. I encoded the film with the DivX5 codec. I then converted the ac3 sound to mp3 using Besweet twice because I experienced sychronization problems when adding the sound to the avi file(using virtual dub). As I saw the film ended up with a frame rate of 24fps!!! I don't know why, maybe because of the forcedFilm option that I put in DVD2AVI. Anyway nomatter what I do, I can't sychronize my audio! I even tried to add the ac3 sound with the movie, I did it correctly believe me, but without luck. I believe that all of this happens because of the 24fps and maybe because virtualdub has a problem with that frame rate, I don't know. Any help would be very appreciated, I thank you in advance.

Hi- When you say 24fps, you really mean 23.976fps don't you? If it really is 24fps, then that would account for the asynch. However, I would look to the muxing procedure first. Virtual Dub has no support for either VBR MP3 or AC3 Audio. Use Nandub for this instead. Make sure the Audio Delay is accounted for, and don't use the default Interleaving values in the case of AC3. But using Force Film and getting 23.976fps out of it has nothing to do with it. The film's length is still the same. If somehow you really did get 24fps, then that could explain it, but you would have had to have changed something major for that to have happened.

Very strange. If you started with an mpeg-2 stream at 29.97 with force film, and used the mpeg2dec AviSynth plug-in (via Gknot), you should end up with a pseudo .avi file at 23.976fps, not 24fps. And if your dvd was PAL, and you force filmed, you'd end up with 19fps or so, still not 24. Do you still have your .avs file and your _gknot.log file available? If so, you might copy and paste them in this thread, which should show all the settings used as well as some results during the process. If you post the .avs, please remove all the comment lines that begin with "#".

Hi- So there was no AssumeFPS(24) in the .avs script, eh? You can fix it up, but I can't explain how it got to be 24fps in the first place. As jggimi requested, the log and .avs might shed some light on the matter. So, to fix it up, Open the Video portion of the movie in NanDub. Go Video and set it for Direct Stream Copy. Then go Video-Frame rate, and tick "Change To", and fill in 23.976. I'm pretty sure you can mux the audio at the same time. It'll only take a couple of minutes and doesn't involve re-encoding. With any luck you should have a synched movie when it's done. You can probably do the same thing with the asynch .avi, but I've never tried that. And if for some reason you wish to keep it at 24fps, then you can convert the AC3 to 24fps using AC3MAchine, and then either mux the AC3, or turn it into a 24fps MP3 using BeSweet or HeadAC3he. Lots of possibilities.

I seem to recall a mod version of DVD2AVI that actually created files that were 24/30 fps rather than the correct 23.976/29.97, Could it have been 1.81? 1.82? What version do you use? Make sure you have v1.76 or you will end up in trouble. VirtualDub does not have AC3 support in any official version (from Avery that is) but the new VirtualDubMod project does indeed have Ac3 support. @jggimi If you 'Force FILM' a PAL movie you will end up with 20fps!(=25*(23.976/29.97))

Thank you all for your feedback! :) I'm not at home right now,so I'll post the .avs file later on. Maybe it will enlighten things! manono your solution sounds logical and simple enough, I think this is the only thing I can do right now. hakko504 I may have used one of those versions of DVD2AVI, I'm not sure, I'll comfirm that at my next post. Bye for now.

Hey guess what? The version of DVD2AVI that I used was 1.76 (good old version ;) ). When opening the vobs with it and pressing F5 (preview) this is what I get: ASPECT RATIO: 16:9 FRAME RATE: 24!!!!! <-- THE SOURCE OF ALL MY PROBLEMS!! :( VIDEO TYPE: FILM 98%,99% most of the time.At times it shows NTSC for less than a second FRAME TYPE: PROGRESSIVE (What I wrote at my first quote wasn't 100% true as you can see, sorry,I thought the frame rate was 29,97 ) From the above, my conclusions are the following : There is nothing wrong with DVD2AVI or Gordian Knot or virtualdub, nandub and Besweet and all the other programs. The source file is made with 24Fps! It would be nice though if virtualdub managed to join the sound with success. And that I'll have to change the framerate manually and then add the audio file, as manono suggested. This DVD was probably from Japan or China? because it had these japanese (or chinese) letters on it. It is kind of weird isn't it though? 24fps? ps. I don't post the .avs file because there is nothing there to see. :)

Quess what AGAIN! The above information results of DVD2AVI, where given to me with the forcedFILM checked!! I run preview(F5) again with the above option unchecked and the frame rate was 29,970 as it was likely to be. I know you must think "Ooh this guy is playing with us!!", and I'm sorry, I made many mistakes since now. Maybe "I" should be given the title "master of misinformation"!! The problem was due to DVD2AVI which set the frame rate to 24fps and that's it. I don't want to find out why, because this happens 1 in 1000 (or more?) and since I live in Europe all the other movies will be in the PAL format. If you want however to find out why, tell me to post the d2v, avs and even the whole avi!! (just kiding there xe xe). I did what manono said and my problem was solved! 23,976 fps with perfectly sychronized sound :) Thank you all and sorry.
