never I can live with a little loss of performance. The gain is not worth the effort IMO.

I just run it over night / when I'm away - usually every 3-4 weeks.

If you use windows XP/2000 and its inherent defragging tools,I can say it is only time consuming, but cannot say not worth for the effort.IMO,you should defragg atlest the Windows drive once in 2 weeks. If you could get system tools like Norton system Doctor, the defragging is even faster. -Tuning

I use a newsreader with two 300MB databases. These get pretty fragmented over the course of a day, and it used to mean defraging my harddrive pretty often. I eventually made a partition just for them and defrag it every couple of days. Since then, I haven't had to defrag my main partition but every couple of months.

Cool. That looks like a barcode for 'splintered cells'. Its redder than a menstrual period, man. Your disks are hemorrhaging :D.

My drives are pretty much working with something all day and night so they get pretty fragmented. At one point one of my 200 GB drives were 97% fragmented... that's when I decided to "take the night off" and defragment the drives :)
