Mixer question.

Hi, Bit of a newb but i understand how to creat a mixer channel and add receives of other mixer channels to it ( so as to apply an effect) but how do i make the sound stop in the original chanels so i can just hear the channel with the effects?

thanks for your help guys. 'Why not just add the effect(s)to the original channel? cliff ' well i wanted to have a each drum sound on its own channel to get the sound of each element right then have them all sent to a single channel to apply an effect to them all.
