Tell me about it Does anybody know what is going on with the EPIC bundle? They anounced it a year ago . Digi says its released already ,but if you go to the emagic homepage there is stil a comming soon message. ????
As an owner of Logic who actually uses virtually only Pro Tools, I can understand the excitement of Logic users regarding the new version 6 features. However, of all those features only two seem to provide capabilities that don't already exist in Pro Tools: Off line bounce and the ESB Bridge option. All of the other features listed on the new features page at emagic are now giving Logic approximate parity to the existing Pro Tools 5.3.1 feature set regarding audo editing and mixing. This includes the highly touted Freeze feature which is as far as I can tell, is just the same as inactivate in Pro Tools. I am very aware of course that the MIDI feature set of Logic is far beyond Pro Tools and has been forever, and I certainly do not dispute that fact. But for those of us who primarily use audio and not MIDI, I don't see a lot of reason to switch. Maybe I am wrong, please illuminate the advantage for me.

Maybe I am wrong, please illuminate the advantage for me not now but in time you will see......but for now I agree...but only for now! SELLER and get a new one
This is what freeze does: Yes, It inactivates the track But before it does that, it renders the output of the track or synth or sampler (people will use this way more with the myriad of synths and samplers that people use within Logic these days). The cool thing is, it renders the track PRE automation, sends and level, so, whilst a frozen track immediately sounds exactly the same as the thawed one (excuse the extended metaphor, it comes from being in NY for the last few days) those things are still available for adjustment. To do that in PT right now, you would have to; 1. Disable automation 2. Set level of track to 0 VU 3. Bounce track to disk 4. Create new track 5. Copy automation from old track to new track. 6. Recreate sends from old track on new track. 7. Inactivate original track. Freeze does this with one keystroke, and reverses the process with one keystroke. It now becomes possible to run a session with 40, 50, 60 synth and sampler parts, simply freezing and unfreezing parts as you need to adjust them. and remember, simple level and send changes do not require unfreezing. You are limited now only by track count and the cpu power to run the most powerful single synth/sampler along with the rest of your session, which is a small fraction of the cpu toll required to run them all at once. And the whole process is done in the background. Wait time? The whole processor is used for the freeze, it's an offshoot of Logic's new offline bounce feature (that ain't in PT6 either Mark ) hope this makes it clearer Malcolm
I always try to be even handed, lest I be called a troll. In this case one of the posts specifically asked about advantages/differences. But Lee is right, that there is more than one great DAW app, and they all have their strengths and weaknesses in the hands of a particular user. And now we spread love and peace throughout the DAW universe. Well, until guitarman2k2 comes in screaming LATENCY!!!
