I have just installed a new Focusrite Saffire USB 6. Windows 7 shows it as being installed and says that it is working properly. The USB 6 USER GUIDE says that Windows will automatically default to it as the Audio output when the USB connection is inserted, but to check within the SOUND section of win 7 to be sure. All that appears there are my Logitech speakers and the internal PC speakers....nothing about the Saffire. When I go into preferences in Reaper there is no mention of the USB 6 until I select ASIO and it appears in the drop down list. When I try to select inputs or outputs nothing appears in the dropdowns. When I try to arm and select in the Track meter of REAPER, i am not given the USB 6 as an option. All of this is weird becuase I HAD initially installed it and had everything working and recognised ..two days later and it has just disappeared without trace. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all to no effect....it is insane and is driving me mad( A feeling I am sure many of you are familiar with)...This entire computer trip seems like a stupid move....and I am looking longingly back to my Hardisk Recorder for the uncomplicated life. ANY ideas would be appreciated.

Hey PDK, thank you for getting back to me. I do not really want Windows system sounds played thru the USB 6.I was only looking there because the USB 6 USER Guide said to check there to ensure it had installed.Given what you have correctly pointed out, I dont understand at all why they suggest it. In any case when I go there,it lists my Logitech desktops as the Default device...there is no mention of the USB 6. When I try to follow your steps for this menu, I just shows the same thing...there is no box that pops up with a line out option and nothing at all about Soundcard choice. I am just shown my Logi's as default and IDT Audio codec Speaker/Headphone as being ready. The only other listing is Indepenant(RTC) Headphones "not plugged in". I dont know why the options you mention dont pop up but given that windows appears to make no reference to the USB 6 as the default or otherwise ( in spite of the USB 6 user guide saying it would)..I have assumed it is not and have proceeded to REAPER prefences as you suggest. I select device...It opens with ASIO4ALL and shows inputs micIn 1 and micIn2 and outputs first and last as being my Logitechs. When I select Focusrite USB Asio driver I get completely empty boxes and nothing in the dropdowns. Enable inputs is checked. When I go to the Focusrite Audio Control panel, I get the message..."No focusrite USB devices with Audio were found attached to this computer". The USB cable is connected and the Focusrite is lit. I am just wanting the USB 6 to playback through my Mackie monitors and be able to switch to my Logitech desktops...( is this A/B ing ). They are the outputs I want ...I dont go out to any modules or anything, if that is what you were asking. I just wish to Input my Casio CTK 900 and guitar and vocals etc. Thanks for looking at this PDK.

Hey Ollie, I have done as you said. I uninstaled ASIO4ALL,removed the logitech usb cable, and uninstalled and reinstalled the Focusrite asio audio driver. When I open Reaper I am met with the message "There was an error opening your audio hardware". When I proceed to the settings box and select Focusrite Asio driver, I get the same problem no dropdowns for inputs or outputs. wHEN i go to the Focusrite control panel I get the same "no usb audio found attached to the computer.

I seem to have it all sorted now, Focusrite gave me great and prompt support. My volume issues were fixed by running BALANCED TRS's instead of the RCA'S. The mixer panning I spoke of was an error of understanding on my part...the mixer control on the USB 6 is for balancing the unprocessed line input volume against the processed output.. Supposedly so you can get away from any latency when recording....or so I understand it. But all seems good...I AM not getting any latency that I can notice at all...so I cant say how well it works to that end at the moment. This little preamp seems a nice unit.
