Here is my problem. I just bought a Sony Vaio Laptop and it came with XP pre-installed. Since most of my software for audio/midi are for 98se, i wanted to know how to install a dual boot set-up. I have win98se cd but not xp ( bundled recovery disc ). Anybody can help????
Hi Vertige, Maybe Bootmagic works. I had a SE/XP system, but uninstalled XP because there are still no audio drivers available. I don't know if there will be a problem if XP is allready installed, SE might not install because it detect a newer version of windows. This can be solved by making the first boot disk "invisible" when booting from the second disk. good luck, and keep smiling..... grtz, Erik
Vertige, before you erase & reformat, just make sure you DO HAVE the recovery disks, otherwise you'll loose all the Sony specific drivers (jog dial, etc...), and they're pretty hard to get by. Good luck,
just erase everything and format a new partition from DOS - use fdisk. you have to install 98 first though - it wipes out any other OS's. email me if you want to know exactly how i did this... (about a week ago)
Actually he does have to wipe xp! the older version of windows has to be installed first and then xp installed after 98 or a dual boot won't work (as per microsoft instructions).

how come noone has brought up partition magic. This should work just fine. He just needs to have both OS setup in the First 8 gigs. I dual boot just fine. I went 98 to xp though. But people from here have gone the other way and worked. Also...XP has all the drivers you will ever need. Don't worry about the digi card. I never installed the driver for the digi and xp doesn't even look at it.
