hi, i'm using the 'Producing Midi in Reaper' tutorial to learn some basic midi. (installing the free SampleTank 2.5.5b is a prerequisite for this). for reasons i can't figure out, i'm unable to get SampleTank to play. when i open SampleTank in Reaper the free instrument sound files don't appear, so i can't make a sound. also, it is prompting me to run the VSTi as administrator within Reaper (see screen shot). i've tried this in Reaper and as a standalone with no luck. everyting was installed according to IK and TRF instructions (sound bank installer first). it's also activated. i should note my music computer is an offline PC (windows 7, 64bit) running Reaper 64. i use a flash drive from a macbook for downloads, so i was unable to update ST. i'm embarrassed to say how much time i've spent trying to do this. this is the first free plug where i've encountered this problem. (well this and the philharmonik demo) any help very much appreciated.
Looks like something with Windows and access rights. I don't know Win7 but try to give rights to every part of the installation (probably spread in many folders all over) or install from scratch and see if you can put everything in one folder that's outside any system folders (for example D:\VSTs)
Probably best someone on Win7 tells you more, but plugins not working due to user rights is a common thing in the VST world and with the error message you're getting it's almost certain something to do with that.
okay, set default to 'Run as Administrator' in Windows, no more messages prompting me to run that way from IK. still no instruments in SampleTank though. anyone have the free SampleTank working on Win7/Reaper64? wanna tell me how you did it? thanks
Do you know where the instruments were installed? Go to the Sampletank vsti screen and click "Prefs" on the right side. Click on the Root: "Browse" button and lead it to the directory where the instruments are to set it. (You can put the instruments on any drive or folder and set the prefs this way.)
it's working. french horns are soaring. glad i tried it again. i discovered what the problem was. i wasn't double-right-clicking on the instruments hard enough to open them in the slots. blunderful. thanks everyone.
