Hello, I would like to insert the italian (Pal region 1) sound track to my NTSC DVD. I know how to rip and DVDs in both systems. However, I have no experience in covertig files from PAL to NTSC. Since I already have the DVD movie in NTSC then I only need to extract (which I did already) the sound track from the same movie in PAL. Is my understanding that I need to convert the audio file before re-compile everry thing using DVDMaestro. Can anyone be so kind and explain to me how can I accomplish this conversion? What software should I use? (My original audio files are *.AC3) Please outline briefly the steps required in makig the conversion. Thanks a million.

the fps in audio files are independent from the tv system. If u have a PAL movie with the same length as a NTSC one u can use the audio in either one with perfect sync. However since NTSC are telecide to 29.97 and PAL r accelerated to 25fps there r length issues to consider. I would suggest inverse telecine your movie to 23,976fps, shrink your audio to the same one, apply pulldown to the movie and start trying from there. Alternative u can create a session in cooledit pro. Insert both audios in it and strech portions of the Pal audio to match up the same positions in the NTSC, ie align door slams, explosions etc in the full length of the movie.

How can I get an ac3 file into cooledit? Cooledit 2000 seems to accept WAV files only. Thank you,

by asking this I assume that the downsample to 23,976 didn't work allthough it should have, theoritically speaking. U can use besweet or SoftEncode to have the wavs u need. Allthough the trick in SoftEncode is to locate the hidden temp directory that it uses to store them temporarily in the system folder for 9x or your user one if in XP on 2000.
