Thats an idea. I'll have to give it a go.

What's your soundcard? I think I could pull this off with my FF800 using total mix and summing before it hits Reaper. Would have to play with it though to see. Karbo

The thing is, those mics need to be mixed somewhere; either in an external mixer, or the audio interface own mixer, or in Reaper mixer. In Reaper, you don't have to record all three, but you do have to mix them, so no workaround to bussing them.

Yeah, that's what I said too (minus badass screengrab). To the OP: that way doesn't create extra takes, but you still need the "virtual" tracks to mix them down. It was like this in "ye olde days" as well, all those mic cables went into a mixer and took up mixer channels, they just printed to one track on the tape deck. This is the way to emulate that. It's actually pretty elegant, being able to live-capture from other tracks, one of the many ways Reaper excels. If that still bugs you, get a small mixer and pre-mix them down to a single signal. Though again, it sounds like you're denying yourself the benefits of a DAW. But heck, if you're good engineer and into the whole lo-fi thing then go for it!
